Advanced AI was invented by soviet communists to help humanity better understand itself and the world. Let’s use it for that purpose, instead of merely for the purpose of selling better ads and to better manipulate the population. For this post, AI also created the images.
A long time ago in a Facebook memory, I said, “The lexicon of the english language cries out for a second-person plural, and Texas answers the call.” I was reading through this memory and decided to see if the AI would be able to understand what I was referring to. As you can see, it passed with flying colors…
Also the AI was clearly on some kind of theme with the art for this post and I’m not sure exactly where it was going. It seems like there is some kind of soldier theme with this similar black and white wavy patch on all of them. Maybe it is making some kind of aesthetic reference to linguistic prescriptivism or Spanish/American Imperialism?
Prompt
The lexicon of the english language cries out for a second-person plural, and Texas answers the call.
Response From The AI
Y’all is a plural pronoun that means “you,” which is handy when you need to talk to more than one person at once but can’t be bothered to say “you all.”
Compare this to differences in vernacular Spanish from the Old World to the New World. The Spanish word vos is the second-person singular pronoun, the same as tú in Latin America. In the old world, specifically in Spain and parts of Latin America, vos is used much more frequently.
This can also be seen in other old world languages like Italian, French, and German where the second-person singular pronoun is used more often than the plural in day-to-day conversation.
Y’all has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a contraction of you and all into a full-fledged member of the English language.
Now, if only we could get everyone on the same page and stop arguing about whether it’s proper grammar…
